We have introduced a MULTIMEDIA page to the website. At the moment there is only one video, documentation of On the threshold, but I aim to expand on that in the future. Check back again soon!

TACTIC Uncanny Sound
Uncanny Sound will open at 7pm next Wednesday, the 14th of September. This is the last of Liam Slevin's installments. Liam is a visual artist and has an ongoing interest in the uncanny and an infatuation with noise. Uncanny Sound is shaping up to Liam's Grand Finale with an international line up of artists and some temporary gallery expansions.

The Uncanny; 3 definitions

1: The Uncanny can be described as an instance where something can be familiar, yet foreign at the same time, resulting in a feeling of it being uncomfortably strange or uncomfortably familiar.

2: The Uncanny is generated by being reminded of the repetition compulsion, not by being reminded of whatever it is that is repeated, an echo.

3: The Uncanny is the word always falling away from itself in to its opposite, yet affirming itself in doing so. The Uncanny comes into being as a law of non-contradiction.

Artists working with video, sound, installations or text are invited to submit works regarding the concept of The Uncanny. The exhibition will take place in Cork city at TACTIC . For more information see www.tactic-art.info

Deadline: 26th August

Please include the following with submissions.

On the threshold of everything inside and out curated by Liam Slevin opened on Wednesday August 10th. More people than expected turned up and it all went smoothly. Well as possible considering people were waiting to get in before we were ready to open and one of Matthew Slack's pieces was stood on and damaged within 20minutes! For more photographs from the installation see our facebook page (where everything is premiered).

We have a logo, thanks to The Project Twins. The Cork based designer company are comprised of Michael and James Fitzgerald. They have worked with national and international organisations but their work can regularly be seen around Cork, particularly in the culture sector, with high profile clients such as Corona Cork Film Festival, Kinsale Arts Week 2010 and the Blackrock Castle Observatory.

Our current curator Liam Slevin has released an open call for the second in his series of four shows at TACTIC.

Artists are invited to submit proposals respond to the following:

“Man’s sense of space is closely related to his sense of self, which is an intimate transaction with his environment. Aspects of his self may be either inhibited or encouraged to develop by his environment.” T. Edward Hall

Artists are invited to expand on Hall’s statement with regards to physical, economic, political and cultural space. Artists are also encouraged to question the way in which we communicate, interact and inhabit these spaces, and ultimately the effect these spaces have on our individual and national Identity. The exhibition will take place in Cork city at TACTIC.

Deadline: Monday 25 July 2011

We had had a great response for our first open call for "On the threshold of everything, inside and out", curated by Liam Slevin.
Slevin released an open call via Visual Artist's Ireland and through Cork Contemporary Projects, which he was previously involved in.
The starting point was;

If a door is to be viewed as a conceptual object it can be read as a point of duality, a transitory object that is belonging to both inside and outside, hostility and hospitality, being and non-being, claustrophobia and agoraphobia, public and private and all the space in between. Artists are invited to consider this with regards to their own practice, and to examine and contextualise this dichotomy within their own practice. One rule applies, artists must use a door (actual/image/section) as their source material.
